Featured Seller of the Day 11/17/2009

I thought, before I start today, I would just take a moment and explain what exactly it is I am doing here. For those of you who are just joining us, I started this blog awhile back to talk about what I was doing in my shop and life and things like that. After doing that for awhile, I decided my life was pretty boring and I needed something else to talk about besides my own crafts and issues. :) So I thought, "What else would be fun to talk about on an Etsy blog? How about my favorite sellers!" I took a look at my favorites list and it was long enough (33 pages at the time) that I figured if I started with the first person I hearted back when I opened my shop in June and worked toward the beginning, then I would have something to talk about everyday for a very long time.

It turned out to be pretty fun! It's neat revisiting my favorite shops and seeing what their latest projects are. And it's lots of fun (to me anyway) to try and pick out a couple of my favorites from their shop, and tell everyone else why they are my favorites. It's like show and tell everyday! :D So anyway, I thought that would give you guys who have recently started following me an idea of why I keep doing this. And I guess the answer is, because it's fun! :)

Okay enough of me talking, on to our featured seller of the day! Today's seller works with both polymer clay and yarn, just not at the same time. :) Their shop is called:

The Incredible Inedibles - Custom Crochet Designs

Since the last three featured sellers have been crocheters or knitters, let's start out with a look at one of the artist's crocheted pieces.

PLAYTIME DONUT DUNKERS

Donuts are one of the downfalls in my life. If there is a box of donuts anywhere I can see or smell them, then I am going to have one (or two, or three)! These delicious looking desserts however are completely calorie free! And they are likely to last much longer then a similar stack of their baked relatives. I think the tan donut with the pink icing is my favorite. I'd like to think that it was a vanilla donut with strawberry frosting, but I guess it's up to the child that plays with it which flavor it will be! :)

If that got your mouth watering, then you might want to turn away, because the next couple of pieces are even more delicious looking!

SWEETHEART CAKE PENDANT

Now this piece is obviously one of the polymer clay creations. But if you didn't know it was clay, I bet you would have thought it was real! And if it wasn't sitting on a fork, I bet you would have thought it was a lot bigger too! Yes that is an actually fork used for eating! This cake is actually a pendant, the perfect eye candy (or cake) to wear with your sweetest outfit. :) I love the little kiwi slices, they are too yummy!

And if you aren't hungry enough to eat a whole cake, then how about a cupcake?

SWEET CAKE PENDANT

Who among you could resist this scrumptious mini cupcake, complete, with a cherry on top! The chocolate frosting looks so real, that it seems like you could take a finger full off the edge when no one was looking! Yum!

Alright enough food! This post is making my tummy rumble. :)

124 Cupcake Lane - The Town of Sweetsville

This piece is just as sweet as the others, but in an "Aww! How cute!" kind of way instead of "I could eat about four of those!" kind of way. :) It has all you could ever ask for in a cupcake house:
- Gingerbread door, for easy access to the interior.
- Frosting covered chimney, to let the steam from your baking out.
- Red and pink striped roof, so you always know which house is yours.
- Pink shutter on the window, in case of freak powdered sugar storms.
- And a beautiful candy flower bush, to add beauty to your home!

While a cupcake house might not be for everyone, it does have one advantage over regular housing. You know for a fact, that you'll never go hungry! :)

Tomorrow, we will feature our last crochet shop for awhile. ::Hint - They make amazingly cute animals and food!::

Featured Seller of the Day 10/30/2009

Today's featured seller has some spooky and creepy items available for our viewing pleasure. Her shop is called:

-where the sweet and sour co-mingle-

Sarah's polymer clay creations range from creepy to sweet, from brains to treats! Since Halloween is tomorrow, this seemed like the perfect combination to start off the weekend. :) The first piece is Halloween in a nutshell, well in a pumpkin shell really. ;)

Whacko Jacko Necklace

This perfect Halloween pumpkin pendant is all ready for fright night! It has an old world gothic feel to it, that is enhanced by the intricate metal frame the jack-o-lantern rests on. A perfectly creepy piece for a wonderfully creepy night!

Not creepy enough for you? Well relax, it only gets creepier from here!

Opti Ring

Eye love this piece! :) No, but seriously, I've always had a thing for eyes, though generally I prefer them in someones head, rather then staring blankly up from their hand. Either way, this is still a really cool piece!

Too creepy? Okay how about we move to the sweet part of this shop for a bit. :)

Chocolate Truffle Charms (6)

If these don't get you in the mood to chow down on some serious quantities of Halloween candy, I don't know what will. And while these aren't traditional Halloween fare, I'd take chocolate truffles over bit sized Snickers bars any day! :)

Alright one more creepy piece. This one would be perfect for a special occasion in your future, if you are a zombie that is!

Lunch Meat Cufflinks

You will be the envy of your zombie friends when you show up at the next black tie event sporting these beauties! Though I would double check with your sweetie before wearing them to her aunt Mayble's 50th wedding anniversary. While you might think it's funny, I'm pretty sure aunt Mayble might think differently! ;)

I hope you enjoyed our selection of Halloween tricks and treats! Tomorrow is Saturday Selections and I will be featuring more of my favorite Halloween themed items. I'm not sure if I'll be going the creepy or sweet route yet, you'll just have to check in tomorrow to find out!

Featured Seller of the Day 10/27/2009

Today's featured seller, makes unique jewelry pieces using polymer clay. Her shop is called:

Juliespace - Julie Sweeney's Handmade Jewelry & Mosaics

Julie uses many different techniques in making her jewelry, giving her shop a very eclectic feel. One of the things I find cool about her pieces, is her use of non-clay material in her work. This, while not a jewelry piece, is a good example.

Turquoise Iris Pocket Mirror

This beautiful pocket mirror has been wrapped in turquoise polymer clay and accented with red paint. I love the texture of the carved flower on the back, and I love how the design wraps around to the front, almost as if it grew that way. :)

The next piece makes use of a different kind of glass to give it a unique texture and composition.

Petal Pendant

The sky blue tones of this pendant are set off perfectly by the green of the seed beads. And while the colors are striking, it's the texture that is the real star of this piece. The smoothness of the clay sides, mixed with the bumpy texture created by the seed beads, is perfectly offset by the soft clay petals and the large glass cabochon at the top. A simply gorgeous piece!

While the next piece does have a beautiful variety of textures, this one is really all about the color.

From The Tropics Birdy

Okay so this one isn't jewelry either. He is however a very handsome fellow. :) I love the way the fiery yellows and oranges of his feathers are contrasted by the bright green of the grass. And I really love the way the artist made his tail feathers into big orange swirls of color! :)

Okay for this last one, I'll do one more piece of jewelry. And since it's almost Halloween, how about something a little spooky?

Flying Pumpkin Necklace

Well, maybe this guy is a little too happy to be spooky, but he certainly is festive! :) He reminds me of old time Victorian area Halloween decorations. I think it's the way the black paint is used to highlight the orange of the pumpkin, that gives it an antiquey kind of look. The perfect perky pumpkin for your happy Halloween! :)

Tomorrow, I will be taking a break from posting, as I have to bring my kids to get their flu shots. We'll pick up on Thursday with an amazing felt artist. ::Hint - She makes flowers!::

Featured Seller of the Day 10/09/2009

Okay last Geekery seller (for a little while anyway). :) This seller creates tiny versions of popular video games and food and makes them into jewelry! And her shop is called:

The Clay Collection

Lauren is a Southern California artist who loves making tiny sculptures out of polymer clay. Her favorite subjects are 80's toys and video games! Here is an example of a very tiny set of video game earrings:

Look at the amazing detail on these pieces! Not impressed? Well here they are next to a penny!

Nintendo Wii Earring set - Wiimote and nunchuk

She also makes miniature food and other geek themed pieces. I hope you're not hungry, because while these earrings look delicious, they are not edible.

Pancake Earrings (PICK ANY 2 for your set) strawberry, banana, blueberry or butter and maple syrup

Yeah, I could totally chow down on those blueberry pancakes right now! (Mental note, don't do these write-ups on an empty stomach!) Don't wear earrings? Not a problem! She also makes necklaces, cuff links, rings, and even wine charms.

WINE CHARM 4 piece set - MST3K - Tom Servo, Crow, Gypsy and the SOL

You can't get much cooler then an MST3K wine charm set! And one last piece, since Christmas is less then 80 days away, why not pick up an ornament for the special geek in your life?

Christmas Ornament - Nintendo Console Controller and Games - pick any 2 games

This one is awesome because you get to pick which games are included on the ornament! And if your not a big Nintendo fan, she also has an Xbox and a Playstation 3 avalible. :)

Tomorrow we move away from the Geekery section for a little while, and head to the Accessory section. ::Hint - Tomorrow's artist makes cute pieces with cloth!::

Later! :)

Okay I need some help.

Alright everyone out there in internet land, I need some help. As some of you might know last month I entered a contest to win tickets to see a live Good Eats episode being filmed in Atlanta, GA. Here is my entry. I made the opening to the show entirely out of sculpey. Here is a link to my original blog entry so you can see the pics of each piece.

Well I didn't win. :( I'm not really surprised, there were a lot of great entries. But I am disappointed, because I wanted to give Alton Brown the sculptures in person if I won. Now I have these five pieces and I would love to send them to him, but I have no idea how to do that. I've already tried FoodNetwork, Alton Brown's website, and the first Fan Club that comes up on Google: Nothing. So anyone out there have any ideas?

I not trying to be a creepy "OMGILOVEYOURSHOWI'MYOURBIGGESTFAN!!!" type, I just put a lot of work into these. I thought about selling them, but no one would pay what I would charge (they took me over 30 hours to make!) and I'd rather give them to someone who would truly appreciate them. Plus it would be pretty cool if he put the magnets on the fridge in his show. :)

Anyway, if you have any ideas let me know. And pass this along to anyone you might know who might have an idea. Thanks! :)

Sorry...

...the contest is almost over, but I have to post this again (in case you didn't see it the first time).
Please visit, My Good Eats! Video so I can get higher up on the Most Viewed list. I don't know if that will help my chances of winning or not, but it couldn't hurt! Thanks!

(The contest is over on the 7th, so soon you won't have to hear about it anymore!)

Here's the link for my first post about this, in case you have no idea what I'm talking about. ;)

First Good Eats! Post

Friday, July 31, 2009

I am so nervous!!! :)

So one of my husband and I's favorite TV shows is Good Eats with Alton Brown on Food Network. It's a great show, and if you've never seen it you should watch it. :) Anyway, this year is the show's 10th Anniversary, so they are filming 2 live shows (the first live shows ever!) in Georgia. In honor of this, they are having a contest where you can enter a picture or a 1 minute (or less) video about how you are Alton Brown's biggest fan and why you should win tickets! So I spent probably 30 hours (not straight of course) making sculpey sculptures of the opening credits to the show, and my brother Alex helped me make a little video with the theme song in the background. And I just posted it! Now I'm nervous that it's not very good. :( At least it's not as good as I would like it to be. Cause I want it to be perfect. Cause I'm anal like that. :) Anyway, here is the link to my post:

Good Eats Opening

And here are picks of the "flying food" cause they are kinda hard to see in the video.

And the finished Logo! :)

It kinda looks flat in the pic, but it is really very 3 dimensional!

Well I hope you like these. :) Sorry if I'm being a wee bit silly. ;)
