Sugar Rush!

This Halloween I got a craving for a candy I hadn't had in a long time: Pixy Stix! I went out to the grocery store to pick some up, but they didn't have any. Over the next couple of weeks I searched all of the stores in my area, but I couldn't find them anywhere. :( Then on Tuesday, I went to Michael's to spend the gift card I'd gotten for Christmas and there they were, right by the checkout!

I was so excited that I called my husband to tell him and then briefly considered spending my entire gift card on Pixy Stix! :D My husband talked me down. But I did buy four bags! :) Yes I am weird, I just usually keep it to myself. ;)

I have been snacking on a few here and there all week. So while trying to come up with a theme for today's post, I decided why not do something with sugar! I looked for Pixy Stix specific items, but there weren't enough to do a standard sized treasury. Instead what I came up with is a treasury full of brightly colored sugary pieces, some of which are made of actual sugar. :) I hope you enjoy this sweet mini treasury! :)

If it's not one thing...

...it's 15 things. Now my house phone has decided it no longer wants to work. Sigh. So I spent all day on the phone today trying to get my phone working. That sounds weird doesn't it? :) Anyway, since I was busy doing that, I didn't get a chance to finish the treasury for today, but I promise it will done for tomorrow. :) I did get a bunch of pictures downloaded from my family's recent trip to Grounds for Sculpture. :) I posted about it once before, but if you live in or near New Jersey, you HAVE to go at least once! It's basically an outdoor art museum set inside a huge garden. I'll upload the pictures to Flickr when I'm done here. But here's my favorite.



The lotus pond was in full bloom! I had no idea they got that big! If I could have stood on the water, they would have been taller then me! So beautiful. :)

Nice Relaxing Weekend :)

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was nice and relaxing, and I actually got quite a bit done too! I finally got around to fixing the pictures from my "little" brothers' graduation. Here they are after they both walked. :)



They both graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors Concentrations! Alex (on the left) got a degree in Accounting and Tony ([DigitalMushroom] on the right) got a degree in Art with minors in Advertising and Art History. Identical twins, but very different. :) If you know anyone in the New Jersey area looking for fantastic workers in either Advertising/Illustration or Accounting let me know! They are both available for hire! :)

I also did a LOT of work on my Ravenclaw ornament! I think it's turning out pretty well. :)



I got the raven attached. The wings were REALLY hard! I'm going to back the whole thing with black when I'm done, so I'm hoping that will give them a little more strength, but we'll see. The banner turned out nice. But I have a LOT of embroidering to do yet! More updates soon!

No school, like the old school!

Yeah so today nothing happened.

Yes you read that right NOTHING happened today. I didn't get any work done, or cleaning, or even blog posting. Pretty much today has been breaking up fights between my kids or changing diapers. So I apologize, but once again today's featured seller is going to instead, be tomorrow's featured seller.

I did get some cool fall pics posted to Flickr last night though. You can find them here, or just click on the Flickr widget in the side bar of my blog. :)

Featured Seller of the Day 11/04/2009

I'm back, and feeling much better! I still wish my children would let me sleep in longer, but I'm sure most mothers wish that. :) Today's featured seller (well yesterday's technically) hails from Scotland. He takes full advantage of the beautiful countryside around him by working in both photography and woodturing using local indigenous woods. His shop is called:

Let's take a look at some of his woodturing pieces first.

Large Decorative Elm Platter from Scotland

This beautiful platter has been turned from local elm, then the carved pattern was added by hand. I love the flame design at the top, and how the natural grain of the wood runs at a diagonal to the pierced designs on the sides. A very elegant piece!

This next bowl is slightly more rugged, but just as beautiful.

Large Yew Bowl from Scotland

This bowl is made from Yew wood. Yew this size (12" in diameter) is very hard to find, making this a very rare and unique piece! The best part about this bowl is not the smoothly and expertly worked spots, but the places that were left rough and natural. :) I love the knots in this piece, especially the chunk missing from the lip of the bowl (you can see it slightly better in some of the other pics in the listing). Leaving some of the areas rough shows off the natural beauty of the piece, as well as the artist's skill in working with the wood. That way the rough parts enhance the smoothness of the worked areas, and the worked areas highlight the natural beauty of the rough parts.

You might think it is enough that an artist, with this much talent in working with wood, would be satisfied with just turning out bowls and platters. But this artist is also a very accomplished photographer as well!

Living in the Scottish countryside today's artist can take full opportunity to capture the beauty around him. This first photograph is a beautiful example.

Moss Field - 9x6 Fine Art Print

This mossy field with it's deep rich greens, seems to draw you in and hold you back at the same time. The field itself is inviting and looks soft and safe, but the forest in the back seems to be lurking, waiting. Waiting for what I wonder? Maybe it's waiting for you to stray to close to its edge...

Barvas Sunset - 9x6 Fine Art Print

It's hard to believe that these two pictures were taken in the same country. But it is not hard to tell that they were both taken by the same master photographer! The warm colors of the sand and sunset in this piece are soft and slightly earthy. They are offset beautifully by the rich blues of the sea and sky. :) And while the last piece seemed to be full of tenshion and an anticipation, this piece gives off an air of pure peacefulness. The sun slowly setting and the waves gently lapping the shoreline; sounds like the perfect way to end an evening, and this post! :)

Summing Up

So I haven't posted what I've been up to for awhile. That's mostly cause I haven't been doing much. I'm having company this weekend, so I've been trying to get my house organized. Hopefully I'm done before my guests show up! :) Anyway, the one interesting thing I have done lately (I'm not sure if I mentioned this or not) is get a flickr account. I really was honest!

Okay I really was gonna work on my sewing, but then I got a flickr account. :) I just spent 3 hours on flickr. That's not good... Perfect Day for Pictures

I got a lot of pics taken today. Some of my pieces still had there "I'll just take a quick pic so I can post this" pics. So I retook a whole bunch. This one was the biggest change (in my mind anyway).

The Crocheted Cat

I just opened my mother-in-law Etsy shop. Anne (The Crocheted Cat) has been making crocheted pieces for years and just made my kids each a cute little toddler sized earflap hat with a pompom on top. :) I'll have to get pics of them wearing them next time I think of it. Anyway, I have half the hats she gave me posted in her shop. I'll hopefully get the rest of the hats posted later this week.

My Brother Steve

I actually had one of my brothers pose wearing the hats, but all but one of the pics came out yucky. He was not overly thrilled to have to pose in the first place, so I'm not sure if he will be happy or annoyed that all but one pic got deleted. :)

Okay now I have to get my dining room put back together.

I am trying to update...honest I am.

So my youngest son Jake has horrible diaper rash, that I got medication from the doctor for yesterday. Today he won't let me put him down, cause he's not feeling well. So I got not one thing done today. Luckily I did get something done yesterday.

I started on a pumpkin. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it a plain pumpkin or a jack-o-lanturn. We'll see how it looks when it's done.

I am now going to see if I can get some better pics of my pincushions now that Pat is home and can take the very clingy baby off my leg! :)

Man it's hot out this week!

Back from my mom's. I got a lot of pictures taken, but I haven't looked at them yet. That's next on the list. Oh I took pics of my brother's (Digital Mushroom's) stuff to, so technically he can post stuff as soon as I finish fixing them! :)

In other news, my cousin Heather (Gilliantwo), Amber's (The Wandering Knitter's) younger sister, opened her Etsy shop today! She has some scarves posted at the moment, but will also be selling some knitted flowers! :) Make sure you check out her shop! Here's one of her scarves!
