Bare Trees and Falling Leaves

Busy weekend! The craft show on Saturday went pretty well. It was so much easier setting up at a show where we didn't have to provide the tables or a tent! Here's a pic of our table.

Now I have to preface the rest of this post with this picture.



This was my last house. It had a big yard, but notice there are no trees. I haven't had to rake any leaves in seven years. Yesterday, my husband and I raked leaves for 2 hours! Then I had to stop and he took another 45 minutes to finish! Here is a picture of HALF of the leaves we raked up!



Now it was the most beautiful fall day we've had in a long time and it was fun to get out and watch the kids jump in the leaves. I also know it was good exercise and I did need to get out of the house, but I am sooo sore today! I am so glad we have mostly maple trees, because I think we might be able to get away with not raking again this season! :)

Anyway, the other nice thing about spending all that time outside, was it gave me a nice idea for a mini treasury! So I hope you enjoy it, the theme is empty trees and red leaves!

News Update

Hello everyone! I have been ridiculously busy lately! I guess that's a good thing, but unfortunately the first thing I have to give up when I'm busy is my blog. :( Poor blog, it's been lonely without me. ;)

What have I been up to? Well aside from chasing my kids around for longer periods of time (they just stopped taking naps) and trying to get my house to stay clean for longer then two minutes, I've also been getting ready for a craft show I'm doing this Saturday! More on that after today's mini treasury.

What is today's mini treasury you ask? Well it oddly enough is themed after the second thing that's been keeping me insanely busy for the last couple of weeks: NaNoWriMo. For those of you that don't know, November is National Novel Writing Month. In honor of this occasion, thousands of writers across the country participate in an event called NaNoWriMo. It is a thirty day event, where in you attempt to write a 50,000 word novel, starting on Nov. 1 and ending on Nov. 30.

Yes that does sound crazy, I'm glad you agree. :) However be that as it may, for some reason, this year I decided it would be a fun idea to try it. Now I'm not a writer, in that I've never written or attempted to write a book, but I had a crazy dream that I just had to write down, and it has so far turned into a 30,000 word novel! As you may have noticed from reading this blog, my spelling and grammar leave something to be desired, but my husband has agreed to proofread it when I'm done writing, and this has been way more fun then I could have imagined! I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with telling you what I'm writing yet, but if you guys are interested, I'll tell you about it when it's finished. :)

So I didn't end up going to the craft show, because all three of my kids have been sick for the last three days with 104 degree fevers. They are actually doing a little better today, but I haven't gotten any sleep or any work for the show done since Wednesday. Luckily I still have another craft show right in town in November, so even if everyone is sick again, I can at least get someone to sit with my stuff if nothing else. Just wanted to let you all know, in case some of you went and were looking for me. :( On the up side I did get a LOT of sewing done since they all got sick, as I've basically been sitting watching TV with them all week. And since my husband is home today and they are starting to recover, I will probably be able to get some of my new pieces posted today and tomorrow. So, anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend! Not going to post a lot this week...

...but I promise I will be back after the craft show, that happens to be THIS SATURDAY AAAAAAHHH! :O Kidding! :) I'm not quite panicking yet. I probably should be as I have yet to even do a mock up of the tables, but I guess I'm still in the denial stage of this craft show. ;)

Anyway, today's mini treasury's theme is one of my favorites! Its theme is Needlecraft! Obviously I'm slightly biased, as am I a sewer, but I still think it's a really cool category. I thought this might be a difficult treasury to make, since I figured most of the needlecraft pieces would be in the needlecraft category, but boy was I wrong! There are so many talented needlecraft artists in all of the categories it was actually hard to choose which pieces to use, rather then it being hard to find items to use at all. :) And without further a due, here is today's mini treasury! Busy Week!

So this week has turned out much more hectic then I thought it would be. Monday was great! My husband stayed home and we went out to lunch without the kids, then had his parents over for dinner. :) That evening was when it started to get slightly crazy. Apparently something my husband ate did NOT agree with him and he ended up sick the rest of the night. So he stayed home on Tuesday as well! Which I don't mind generally speaking, but he kind of interrupted my "Monday". Monday is usually one of my busiest days, because I'm packing orders, answering mail, and cleaning the house from the weekend. With him home, for some reason, it becomes more difficult to get things done on time. :) Luckily by Tuesday night he was feeling fine again, so he went back to work on Wednesday.

Wednesday I got a lot done including posting a bunch of vintage pieces & getting some descriptions written up. And today looks good for pictures (finally) so hopefully I'll get a bunch of stuff posted today and tomorrow as well! I also finished to new ornaments, a mask and a sun! They came out cute!

Also, there is only a week and a half left before the craft fair! And I'm not ready. :( I have a bunch of little stuff to make up, plus I just realized that all my table decorations are packed and in my attic! But I'm not panicking yet! That can wait till next week. :)

Anyway (long post today), in and amongst all of the stuff going on this week, I did get another mini treasury made up! :) This one is based on the Paper Goods category. I like the way the colors turned out on this one, and I hope you do to! Enjoy! :)

Hmm...

So it occurred to me over the weekend that I have less then two months till the craft show I'm attending in September, and I am no where near ready for it! So starting today I am going to be taking a "blog break" to get caught up. I'll still post here and there, but I'm not going to be doing any treasuries for a bit. As fun as they are, they are cutting into my creative time quite a bit. :) Not that I spend too much time on Etsy or anything, but I could cut back just a little bit. ;)

And in case you are interested, the craft show I'm doing with my cousin Amber (thewanderingknitter), is the Ocean Grove Giant Craft Show on September 4th. I'll post more info about it as it gets closer.

Phew! That was a LONG weekend!

To start off, the craft show on Saturday was a big success! :) Rather then fill up my blog with pics, I'll just link you to my Flickr photo album. (That's my cousin Amber hiding under the tent!) :)

I finished the sun pincushion tonight. Here's the finished product:





I also got my mom's van packed for the craft show. It turns out it will just be me, Amber, and Heather selling stuff, cause Melissa couldn't come. Okay bedtime!

Let me catch up on everything I've been doing. Friday I finished the beehive.



Well it's not "finished" finished, I still need to do the door and the pins, but the main part is done. It was actually pretty easy to put together!

Let see what else? Oh, I finished sewing non slip pads on the bottoms of all my half finished pieces. And I finished sewing my pie! You can see a finished pic of it in my last post. Oh also in my last post is pic of a completed Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon I made Friday night. That brings us to Saturday.

Saturday I went to my mom's to do a mock up of the craft fair which is SATURDAY AAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!....... Okay...I'm better now. :) If you need more info on the craft show, here's a link to my original post about it:

Craft Show Post

We're going to have a 10' x 10' tent, which turns out to be much more room then I thought. We set up the tables in my mom's basement, since it was like 100% humidity outside that day! (Oh, and I'll just add that my brother's trashed the basement the day before, so it doesn't normally look like this!) The first pics here are the tables set up assuming we are the only ones going. We being Amber (The Wandering Knitter), her sister Heather (Gilliantwo), and me.



The second table is also going to have two "T" shaped holders for scarves to hang from. The next set of pics is assuming my sister Amanda's sister-in-law Melissa is coming with her jewelry.



In this set up the first table would only have one "T" scarf holder. I'll take some pics at the craft show next weekend to show everyone. It should look really nice.

After we finished that, I did a couple more lollipop ghosts. Then I started a couple small pincushions, cause I needed to work on something simple.



One is the moon and the other is the sun, and they are about half the size of my other pincushions. I'm going to embroider them and probably make one pin each for them. Then I ran to Michael's to get a couple things I'd run out of. And when I got back we went home.

When we got home, I worked on scupley. I finished the birds for the pie, the ribbons for the ribbon, a second try at gumdrops (fail), and 1 of the poker chip pins for the dice.



I did the blue one Saturday night, and the other two I did Sunday. It was my first attempt at cane work. And considering I'd never done it before (and I don't own a very sharp sculpey knife) they came out pretty good! I'm just glad the die was red, so I didn't have to try it with red clay! I also made some fall pins for the pumpkin (see below).

Speaking of Sunday, since it was actually sunny out, I got some pretty good pics of the pie and the ribbon, then I posted them. I also did the other two poker pins. I was gonna do more sculpey, but I ran out of steam. So instead we had dinner put the kids to bed and watched a movie while I sewed.

I finished the pumpkin and as soon as I am done here, I'm posting it. Here's a pre-posted pic:


It came out really cute! :) Now I just need to do some better pics tomorrow. Along with gathering everything up from my mom's so I don't have stuff for the craft show in 40 locations.

Okay, time to post the pumpkin. I'd post the dice too, but I'm going to embroider Atlantic City on the 2 side. Alright, back to work!

Fingers Crossed!

I posted my first pincushion! I would have posted 2, but I never finished the design on the coffee cup. I did finish the coffee bean pins though.

Swiss Cheese Felt Pincushion with Three Decorative Mice Pins

Ta-Da! This one turned out exactly like I wanted it to. I love it when that happens! :) It's funny I really want it to sell fast, but at the same time, I'm kinda hoping it's up there until I post the rest of the ones I'm finishing. Well only time will tell.

In other pincushion news, I started (and finished) a leaf pin cushion. I'm either going to do ladybugs or bug bugs for the pins. Here's a pic so far.



Very simple, but very cute. :) I think (besides the tomato) this is the most practical pincushion for actual use, because it has a lot of surface area and is almost impossible to tip over.

I will also give you an updated pic for the cupcake. It turned out almost, but not quite, entirely unlike how I had planned it to.



I do like it, but it's not my best work. It is however, way cuter in person. I need to get a new camera.

Tomorrow is my "free night" which means if I don't get anything done before 4pm, nothing's getting done till 10pm. I'm supposed to go to WeightWatchers, but I'm not sure if I'm going to or not. I gained weight last week, and I KNOW I gained weight this week. So I think I'll use my get out of jail free card and skip a meeting. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do instead, but I'm sure as heck not going to miss my "escape from my house without my children" night.

Oh I almost forgot. The lady from the Ocean Grove Craft Show called me today. Apparently the township is requiring a health inspection (for $25) for anyone selling food at the show. And, your not supposed to be making the food in your house. Which means no Patrick cookies at the show. :( I've never heard of craft fairs requiring that before. ~ sigh ~ Oh well. He'll get his chance to shine someday. I think I'll ask if I can post his newest recipe sometime this week. He made Triple Ginger Gingerbread cookies on Saturday. They were to DIE for! :)

Okay this post has gone on long enough. It seems the later it gets the more I ramble!
