Epic Fantasy

Also epicly hard treasury to make! I don't know if I was just really distracted this week or if I'm too picky or what, but it took me FIVE days to make this treasury! That's a new record! :)

I thought it would be fun to make a treasury based on fantasy stories since I'd been reading a lot of them lately. But it turned out to be a lot harder then I thought it would be. I think my mistake was not having a clear idea of what I wanted to include. There are SO many cool fantasy items on Etsy, I was just overwhelmed! But it's finally done! And I hope you enjoy it! :)

Geek Pride Day!

Happy Geek Pride Day everyone! :) Today is all about ending bullying and celebrating what makes us all different! It was inspired by a little girl named Katie who was bullied at school for liking Star Wars. The boys in her class said girls weren't allowed to like Star Wars because it was only for boys! Her mother found out about it and posted about it on her blog. The response from the geek community was incredible! :D You can read the whole story on CNN.com.

Katie's school is having a Proud To Be Me Day today, where all the students and teachers are coming to school wearing their favorite character t-shirt, whether it's Star Wars, My Little Pony, or NASCAR, to show that we can all be different and all still be friends. In support of these great kids doing their best to increase understanding and end bullying, geeks across the globe are all sporting their favorite geeky t-shirts. Katie was also offered many toys and gifts from her new fans. While she was grateful to receive so many gifts and offers of gifts, her and her mother would like to offer a challenge instead. Today if you can afford it, donate a toy to your local hospital or children's charity to help support our future geeks and make a less fortunate child's Christmas a little bit happier. :) If you're not sure where you can donate toys in your area, I would suggest checking out Child's Play an organization run by the people at Penny-Arcade that donates toys to local hospitals, or Toys For Tots which is run by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Geeks I Need Your Help!

Last night I read an article a mother posted about her daughter in first grade. She had been bullied at school for having a Star Wars waterbottle by the boys in her class, because girls aren't supposed to like Star Wars!

Not being nearly as important as NASA or the official Star Wars team, I decided to do my best to help the only way I can, by posting about it. :) So this morning I made up a Star Wars treasury in honor of Katie and all my fellow girl geeks out there! That a look! :)

The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth!

Wow! That was hard! As you may know from reading my blog, I've been working through a series of treasuries based on Etsy's categories. I take the title of a category and use it as a search term, then go through all the other categories looking for cool items based on the search. It's a fun way to see all the different ways you can use different techniques to make wonderful pieces of art! :) So far I'm a little more then halfway done and I've only had one or two that I've had a hard time with. Today, however, beat them all!

Today's theme is Geekery. Now I know what you're thinking, "There's tons of geek stuff on Etsy, why was today's treasury so hard to make?" Well actually, that ended up being the problem! There is so much great geek stuff, from so many different aspects of geekdom, that it took forever to narrow it down to a theme and color scheme. It has literally taken me hours to sort through all the amazingly cool geeky stuff on Etsy and narrow it down to only 16, then 6 items!

Unfortunately, I was not able to include ALL of the aspects of geek life or all of the different types of geeks out there, but I did my best. And I hope you enjoy, this colorful ode to Geeks Across Etsy! :)

Pirates vs. Ninjas!

Who would win? It's the question of the ages. Sure "Where do we come from?" and "If a tree falls in the woods, would anyone hear it?" are good questions too, but this one is at the forefront of geek discussions everywhere!

So who would win in fight between pirates and ninjas? Well that depends on who you ask. :) I've always been a ninja person myself, though pirate ships are really cool too. It really comes down to stealth and finesse vs. power and fearlessness. Ninjas rule the night, pirates rule the sea. Ninjas have cool pointy (and ridiculously well made) weapons, pirates have swords and guns. And while ninjas train their whole lives to develop their skills, pirates get to get drunk on boat in the middle of the Caribbean (among other places). :) So who do you think would win? You can cast your vote in my poll on the sidebar and we'll see is triumphant! :)

In all honesty I have no idea what got me thinking about pirates and ninjas, but it did lead me to create two really cool new Christmas ornaments! :) The first one is a pirate flag.

Today is supposed to be the biggest internet shopping day of the year. And of course, since I spent all day yesterday putting up our tree and packing stuff away in preparation of moving soon, I am soooo not prepared! :) Well that is not totally true. Okay I need some help.

Alright everyone out there in internet land, I need some help. As some of you might know last month I entered a contest to win tickets to see a live Good Eats episode being filmed in Atlanta, GA. Here is my entry. I made the opening to the show entirely out of sculpey. Here is a link to my original blog entry so you can see the pics of each piece.

Well I didn't win. :( I'm not really surprised, there were a lot of great entries. But I am disappointed, because I wanted to give Alton Brown the sculptures in person if I won. Now I have these five pieces and I would love to send them to him, but I have no idea how to do that. I've already tried FoodNetwork, Alton Brown's website, and the first Fan Club that comes up on Google: Nothing. So anyone out there have any ideas?

I not trying to be a creepy "OMGILOVEYOURSHOWI'MYOURBIGGESTFAN!!!" type, I just put a lot of work into these. I thought about selling them, but no one would pay what I would charge (they took me over 30 hours to make!) and I'd rather give them to someone who would truly appreciate them. Plus it would be pretty cool if he put the magnets on the fridge in his show. :)

Anyway, if you have any ideas let me know. And pass this along to anyone you might know who might have an idea. Thanks! :)

I am so nervous!!! :)

So one of my husband and I's favorite TV shows is Good Eats with Alton Brown on Food Network. It's a great show, and if you've never seen it you should watch it. :) Anyway, this year is the show's 10th Anniversary, so they are filming 2 live shows (the first live shows ever!) in Georgia. In honor of this, they are having a contest where you can enter a picture or a 1 minute (or less) video about how you are Alton Brown's biggest fan and why you should win tickets! So I spent probably 30 hours (not straight of course) making sculpey sculptures of the opening credits to the show, and my brother Alex helped me make a little video with the theme song in the background. And I just posted it! Now I'm nervous that it's not very good. :( At least it's not as good as I would like it to be. Cause I want it to be perfect. Cause I'm anal like that. :) Anyway, here is the link to my post:
