On the fifth Day of Christmas...

...my true love gave to me, five golden rings, and some fuzzy slippers cause my feet are really cold! Yesterday it was cold out! Which was okay cause I didn't have to go anywhere, but for some reason it was cold in my house to! Usually my house isn't that drafty, but yesterday I had to wear my slippers all day, because my feet were like ice cubes! If this keeps up, I might have to actually turn the thermostat up today! :o Well if you are a jewelry person, then today's verse should warm your heart, though I can't guarantee it will help your feet! ;)

December 7th 1941

Today we pause from our merriment during this busy time of year to remember a darker time in our history.

"December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." - President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945)

Today whatever country we are in, let us take some time out from our holiday shopping and running around, to remember those that have fallen protecting our countries and us. Let us think of those who are now fighting or serving to keep us safe. And, let us remember always that whatever amount of peace we enjoy is fragile and needs to be protected.

To those who died, and those who live to protect my country, I salute you!

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, And a time to die;
A time to plant, And a time to a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, And a time to heal;
A time to break down, And a time to build up;
A time to weep, And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, And a time to lose;
A time to keep, And a time to throw away;
A time to tear, And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, And a time to speak;
A time to love, And a time to hate;
A time of war, And a time of peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Let us pray that this year, will be a time of peace for all.

December 6th - Saint Nicholas Day

So today we are taking a break from the Twelve Days of Christmas, to celebrate St. Nicholas Day! In Europe children place their shoes or socks outside the night before and if they have been good, awake to find that St. Nicholas has filled with candy and toys. However, if a a child has been naughty, they receive coal or even a switch to be spanked with! Here are some treats for all of you who have been good this year. :)

On the fourth Day of Christmas...

...my true love gave to me, four calling birds, and a bunch of cookie recipes! Yes it is that time of year again. The time of year when I don't get to go near my kitchen in the evenings, because my husband has stolen it from me! The time of year where the house smells of ginger and spice, of peppermint and chocolate, and I'm not aloud to have any of it! The time of year when my investment analyst husband takes over the baking from his wife who was a chef! How did this happen? I have no idea. He always liked cooking, but then I got him a cookbook by Alton Brown (his favorite Food Network chef) called "I'm Just Here for More Food: Food x Mixing + Heat = Baking" and I never got to bake another cookie again. Alton Brown uses science to figure out the best method to cook whatever it is you are cooking, and being a math major/science geek my husband loved it! But now every year I sit in the living room with the kids, peering into the kitchen watching him cook, and hoping that maybe, just maybe, he'll let me lick the spoon. :) Anyway, on to today's verse!

On the third Day of Christmas...

...my true love gave to me, three French hens, and a backache from picking up millions of Froot Loops someone decided to throw on the floor! Well actually multiple someones, as the Froot Loop eaters in the house are twins. And while no day with kids goes very smoothly, I did get a lot of pictures done yesterday! I also got to straighten up a little while they napped. Thank Heaven for nap time! However, it is now time for me to declare defeat in one area. I was unable to find enough French hens in groups of three to make up a six block set. :( I knew that would happen eventually, as I doubt there are very many pictures of "six geese" doing much of anything let alone "a laying"! :) But I was hoping I would at least get through the first 4 or 5. Oh well. C'est la vie! And on that French note, back to our song! ;)

On the second Day of Christmas...

...my true love gave to me, two turtle doves. And kitchen table that needs to be cleaned, among other things. Though I think that will have to wait util after I straighten out the dining room, because today is picture day! I have a backlog of stuff that needs pictures before I can post them, so that's my main task today. My poor house is a mess, but I guess one more day won't kill it. :) Now on to today's verse!

On the first Day of Christmas...

...my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree! :) Yeah, so once again I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off this morning. My in-laws are going to watch the kids so I can actually get out of the house and do some shopping! I'm thinking I might not actually get a chance to do another single shop Featured Seller until after Christmas, but we'll see. For the moment though, I thought I would do the 12 Days of Christmas as a theme for days that don't have a holiday associated with them. :) So let's start from the top!

I can't believe...

...that today is December first! That just does not seem possible! But, here we are less then a month till Christmas. And it will be a Christmas miracle if I get everything done this month that I need to do! Which, of course, is why I've sort of gone through a format change on my blog this month. :) It's much faster to come up with a Selections Collage then to do a Featured Seller. And while doing Featured Sellers is more fun, with getting ready to move + Etsy + Christmas, I just don't have the time to put into it at the moment. Besides this way I get to highlight more awesome shops at once! :D Speaking of which, since today is the first day of December, I thought I would do a Selections Collage with a turquoise theme, since turquoise is December's birthstone. So here you are some beautiful examples of turquoise on Etsy!
