Snacky

I went to the grocery store, while hungry, over the weekend. There should be a law against doing that. I must have bought every other piece of junk food in the entire store! The husband was not pleased. :) It got me thinking about kid's snacks, since that's one of the things I was supposed to be buying. It's weird because I have lots of snacks for my kids in the house, but I rarely eat them. I like saving my calories for my own special grown-up snacks, like triple fudge ice cream. :D But I thought it would be fun to look up some kiddy snacks on Etsy and see what came up. I discovered a treasure trove of yummy lovelies, most of which are completely calorie free! Hungry? Enjoy this delicious group of childhood favorites! :)

So hungry...

I should not work on food related blog posts right before lunch! Now I have a major case of the munchies! And even though none of this food is actually edible, I'm sure after looking at today's treasury, you will too! Today is the latest treasury in my Across Etsy series. It features the edible half of the Plants and Edibles category. Enjoy! :)

It's Bacon!

Okay, I'm taking a break from my treasury series, to show you what I've been doing lately. :) I've created a couple new ornaments in the last couple weeks. The first couple are old ideas that have have recreated as ornaments. Long, LONG ago, I made a felt advent calender from scratch. It took me two years on and off to finish it.

So I thought this year it might be fun to remake some of the little advent ornaments into full sized ornaments! :) The first one I did was the easiest:

Red Felt Heart Christmas Ornament

I'm thinking of make up a pink one and making a listing for a pick your own color heart listing. We'll see. :) Then I moved on to a slightly more complex one (and my favorite from the calender):

Snow Globe with Red House Felt Christmas Ornament

This was a fun piece to do, though for some reason, I had a heck of a time with the base! I just couldn't decide how I wanted it to look. But I think it came out really cute! :)

Then I made up a couple new pieces. I while back I had bought some yummy colored felt from TheDailyPincushion. I used some of it to make my sushi pincushions and ornaments, but the rest got lost in the shuffle when we moved. While the kids were sick, one of the things I did was organize my workspace a bit better, and in the process I found all my cool colored felt! So I decided to put it to good use and make this:

Strawberry Hand Sewn Felt Christmas Ornament

Isn't that strawberry felt delicious? :) I must have been in a food mood, because the other piece I made with the new felt was: bacon!

Felt Bacon Breakfast Hand Sewn Ornament

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure why I made felt bacon either, but it turned out really cute! And on that note, I've made up a little bit of bacon heaven, for your enjoyment! Please don't eat the pictures!

Oy!

I guess I should have taken this week off instead of last week! All three kids are currently cycling through a stomach virus: 1 down, 1 currently sick, 1 to go. I'm HOPING beyond hope, that my husband and I don't get it too! Anyway, I was able to post a new piece I finished Monday. It's a sugar plum, and it's the first fully beaded piece I've ever done. It came out cute! :) It wasn't has hard to the beading as I thought it was going to be. If this piece sells I may do another plum and maybe a couple other beaded pieces. :) Anyway, since I didn't have a lot of time to come up with another theme, today is officially sugar plum day on my blog! Enjoy!

A Good Food Week

This has been what I would classify as a good food week. There was carnival food, mint, ice cream, and now ginger cookies! :) Christmas is one of my favorite times of year and one of the main reasons for that is gingerbread! I LOVE gingerbread! I'm not sure why or how gingerbread ended up being a Christmas food, but it saddens me to think that most people only eat ginger cookies during the holidays. I always make sure I get a healthy helping of ginger cookies at least two or three times during the "off season." These are my very, very favorite ginger cookies:

They are my husband's triple ginger cookies! And they are soft, chewy, and delicious! I could probably eat two dozen of these without even trying! Not the there is anything wrong with Christmasy cookies, especially gingerbread men, who are as much fun to make as they are to eat! I actually have a couple of gingerbread Christmas ornaments in my shop right now and this little guy is going to be joining them very shortly. :)

Russian Dancer Gingerbread Man Felt Christmas Ornament

He started out as a plain gingerbread man, but something about him reminded me of the Nutcracker Suite, and he ended up dressed like a Russian dancer. I think he looks very handsome, and very tasty! :)

So since this weekend I seem to have ginger on the brain, here is a selection of ginger, Etsy style! Enjoy! :)

Minty!

Yesterday was mint day at my house. First I took some pics of a mint plant I got from my parents house.

Once long ago I planted some mint in a makeshift garden in my mother's yard. After a couple of years, my mom decided the garden was too much work, so my dad cut it down and planted grass. Unbeknownst to us mint is a weed and no matter how many times my dad tried to cut it back, he could never get rid of it! :)

A week or so ago i decided to see if there was any of the mint left in the yard. Sure enough, I found a nice piece growing right next to the air conditioner! So I pulled it up and I'm going to plant it in a hanging planter on my new porch!

I also got two candy cane felt ornaments finished and posted in my Etsy shop. I did something different with these ornaments: I used satin ribbon as an accent! I think they came out really cute. :) So I thought today I would do a theme of red and green mint! Enjoy! :)

Featured Seller of the Day 11/1/2009

Today's featured seller makes yummy creations out of recycled felt! Her shop is called:

Little Fluff Stuff: Toys treats & other little goodies!

Except for a little wool blend, all of today's artist's pieces are made with felt that comes from 100% recycled plastic water bottles! What kind of things can be created with felt made from water bottles? Let's take a look!

Brown Box of Felt Chocolates - Set of 4

In honor of Halloween being yesterday, let's start off our tour of this store with some chocolate! This delicious looking set of truffles would be the perfect gift for the chocolate lover in your life. And these candies are calorie free! :) I love how the white chocolate piece looks like it's been rolled in coconut! Yum! :)

Oh, you're all chocolated out from yesterday? Understandable, I think I ate double the amount of candy I should have last night too. Okay then, how about an international treat instead? Something less chocolaty but just as sweet!

Felt Macaroons - Set of 7

Macaroons (or macarons) are a traditional French pastries made with two thin, dome shaped cookies and a cream or ganache filling. These macaroons are brightly colored and are made to mirror some of the more traditional flavors macaroons are available in. They sure do look good enough to eat!

Okay, okay, enough sugar for the moment. Let's move onto some savory treats!

Eco Friendly Felt Sushi Set

This beautifully made sushi set is perfect for fans of this unique Japanese cuisine! It comes with five different types of sushi, plus a leaf garnish, and a wooden tray complete with ginger and wasabi! I love sushi and this set makes me hungry just looking at it! Who knew that something made out of old water bottles could end up so colorful and unique? :)

Not into raw fish? Well, to each his own I guess. ;) How about some Chinese food instead?

Eco Friendly Felt Dumplings - Set of 3

My second love in the world of asain cuisine is dumplings! I could probably eat nothing but sushi and dumplings for the rest of my life! These dumplings are so real looking, that each time I see them, I'm surprised there is no steam coming off of them!

Okay, I think I have to stop here or I'm going to end up eating all the food in my fridge! :) Tomorrow's featured seller works with wood. ::Hint - They make hair accessories!::

Featured Seller of the Day 10/23/2009

Today's featured seller is another felt artist that makes amazingly cute magnets and brooches. Her shop is called:

Bittersweet Friends - Lovingly Disgruntled

Since today is Friday, I thought we could inject a little humor onto this site. The pieces today's artist makes, are both cute and funny. The perfect little pick-me-up to get you through the last couple hours before the weekend begins.

Our first piece is roundish and orange and a big player in October. He is the pumpkin!

Bittersweets Angry Autumn Pumpkin Brooch or Halloween Magnet

This little guy is upset by the various cruelties that befall his fellow pumpkins. Between the carvings and pie making that goes on in the fall, he really does have a lot to be angry about! Luckily none of these tragedies will befall him, because he is made of felt. :)

This next piece is both sweet and spicy. Say hello to wasabi and ginger!

Tasty Ginger and her Vengeful Little Buddy Wasabi - Brooch

These best friends have graced sushi plates for centuries! And while sweet ginger is sad that soon they will be eaten, wasabi knows even though you'll eat him, he will have the last laugh! :)

What comes after sweet and spicy? How about sour?

Sour Little Lemon Brooch

Okay so lemons are always sour. But this lemon on top of having a sour flavor, also has a sour disposition! You would too if you had a beautiful smell and color, but no one could eat you due to your taste!

From sour, we will visit our last piece: a sweet chocolate chip cookie!

Bittersweets Angry Cookie Magnet or Brooch

Okay, so this cookie is a little more bittersweet then sweet, but it's still too cute! The only thing I don't like about this piece, is it makes me hungry for cookies! If you didn't see your favorite food here or in the artist's shop, let her know, she loves specail orders! :)

Tomorrow, I'll be doing something a little different. Instead of posting one artist, I'm going to post a few of my favorite items from a couple different people. Then Sunday it will be back to the Featured Seller series.

Later!
